Katie Couric's Labor Day weekend was all about the love. People reports that the talk show host's boyfriend, John Molner, proposed on the beach in East Hampton, N.Y., over the holiday -- and she said "yes." The news was later confirmed to the Associated Press by Couric's rep, Matthew Hiltzik.
At the Met Costume Institute Gala in May, Couric admitted that she and Molner had been dating "for about a year," telling USA Today that part of his charm was the fact that he's from Chicago, which Couric said has "always had a special place in my heart" because her parents met there.
The head of mergers and acquisitions at Brown Brothers Harriman, Molner, 50, will be a stepfather to 56-year-old Couric's two daughters from her previous marriage to Jay Monahan, who died of prostate cancer in 1998.
"I used to worry a lot about the future. [But] who knows what it will bring?" she told People in 2011 when asked about the prospect of raising the girls, Ellie, now 21, and Carrie, 17, as a single parent. "Hopefully it will bring good things."
