Zooey Deschanel set to launch clothing line with Tommy Hilfiger
Does your closet need a dose of adorkability? Does springtime bring out the quirks in your personal style? Yeah, you see where we're going with this … Zooey Deschanel has joined forces with Tommy Hilfiger to create "To Tommy, From Zooey," a 16-piece capsule collection slated to debut at Macy's this spring. With a moniker that could work as a She & Him song title and Zooey-coined style descriptors like "modical" (mod meets nautical), the line features plenty of "the New Girl" star's signature style moves: think peekaboo fabrics, high-hemmed, sporty skirts and bright colors.
"They are Sixties-inspired short dresses," Hilfiger tells WWD, adding that Deschanel reminds him of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O. "There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics. They are very Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy — really from the '60s in London. That's not something we would normally put in our regular sportswear line — maybe we'd be inspired by the '60s for the runway, but it's a new way to look at fun, American classics."
Says the actress: "I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe. Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece."
The dresses and coats will retail between $98 and $199; the line arrives at Macy's on April 14. Big blue eyes not included.
