'True Grit' star Hailee Steinfeld joins anti-bullying crusade
Hailee Steinfeld is just 16, but with six films on her plate and an Oscar nomination for her turn in "True Grit" under her belt, she's already accomplished more than many adults. It turns out that success also extends to her personal life, where the experience of being bullied in school inspired her to support the Trevor Project and speak out about the issue in the new issue of Glamour. "Bullying is something I went through, from third to sixth grade, when I got pulled out [of school]. I still go through it," she says. "And if I can be the person who says, 'Trust me when I tell you it will be OK,' then I will be that person."
Steinfeld shows the striped of her maturity by understanding bullying from both sides of the problem. "Often bullies are taking something [personal] out on others," she offers. "If they use that energy to make someone smile, we can save so many people in the long run."
