Winona Ryder Skirts Nasty Reporter's Question
"It's been a long time we've seen you. Now you're coming out with ['The Iceman'] and 'Frankenweenie.' So, two movies in the same year. So, now do you feel welcome again in Hollywood?" So said an unabashedly bad-mannered reporter at a Toronto press conference for Winona Ryder's "The Iceman." He was evidently referring to the actress' 2001 convictions on charges of grand theft, shoplifting and vandalism -- focusing on something that happened a decade ago and ignoring Ryder's contribution to the "Black Swan" Oscar win. Ryder handled the situation with a Winona-esque aplomb: "I don't know if you're saying, ‘We missed you!' or ‘What are you doing here?'" she admitted, before going on to explain that she needed time to focus on her personal life, adding, "I'm now 40 and I'm actually psyched for 40 and psyched to get older because I think you get more comfortable with yourself."
