One of the best parts of an awards show? All of the memorable couples who walk the red carpet before it begins! In honor of the 49th Annual American Music Awards on Nov. 21, 2021, Wonderwall.com is taking a look at some of the most iconic duos and couples of AMAs past, starting with these young lovers… Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez made a rare red carpet appearance as a couple at the 2011 AMAs. While their relationship would go on to have its fair share of highs and lows, these two teens were young and in love back in the day. That evening, Justin was up for favorite pop/rock male artist.

Who can forget when Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears arrived at the 2001 AMAs in coordinating denim looks? From Britney's floor-length patchwork jean dress to Justin's denim suit and hat, the chart-topping sweethearts definitely drew attention. This outrageous AMAs fashion moment happened just one year before their infamously messy breakup in 2002.

In 2006, "Sweet Escape" singer Gwen Stefani attended the American Music Awards with then-husband Gavin Rossdale, from whom she split nine years later.
