The 2019 Academy Award nominations have been released, and now we know all the stars in contention for the most prestigious acting awards. Ahead of the big night, we're rounding up some of the nominees' best and worst looks from the past year — starting with Amy Adams! The best actress nominee stepped out in this saucy little red number by Chloe for the "Vice" premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 11, 2018. From the plunging neckline to the embellishments on the bodice to the open sleeves, there's a lot going on here for sure. However, we kinda love that she tried something different on the red carpet. While we didn't love this look from Amy Adams at the 2019 Golden Globes, we do love the color on her. The "Vice" star donned a teal blue off-the-shoulder Calvin Klein frock that fit her flawlessly, though she kept her hair and makeup pretty simple, not leaving us feeling "wowed" by any of it.

Amy Adams stepped it up a notch in the fashion department at the SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 27. We'd venture to say this sleek black Celine number, with its ruffled neckline and peplum detail at the waist, was her best look of the year!

Lady Gaga delivered one of our favorite performances of the year in "A Star is Born" and while she didn't win best actress at the 2019 Golden Globes, we were obsessed with her look that night. The powerhouse singer's cornflower blue Valentino gown brought just the right amount of drama — those sleeves! — and a unique pop of color. We also appreciated her dedication to that hue, even matching her hair to the gown. Plus that necklace is everything! We can't wait to see what she wears to the Academy Awards, where she's up for best actress.
This 2019 Critics' Choice Awards look puzzled us. Lady Gaga looked perfectly pretty and easygoing in this peachy Calvin Klein by Appointment gown. But we've gotta admit that we sorta expected some more drama from the singer-turned-actress. Don't get us wrong, she looked beautiful, it's just missing that punch Gaga normally delivers.
Now this is the Lady Gaga we know and love! Though we weren't fans of her insanely extra Alexander McQueen moment at the London premiere of "A Star is Born" on Sept. 27, 2018, it was at least an interesting fashion risk to pick apart. From that dramatic high neckline to the overall bizarre choice of a Victorian vibe, though it kept us entertained, this one was certainly not one of Lady Gaga's best looks.
We love this Azzedine Alaia number that Lady Gaga wore to the 32nd Annual American Cinematheque Awards! Despite it being November, Lady Gaga owned this sheer and sparkly little dress that showcased her figure. We love that Gaga takes risks!
Mahershala Ali's casual style makes him look like one cool customer! The "Green Book" actor dressed up dark jeans and a lighter denim button-down with a burnt orange coat and crisp white sneakers for an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in January 2019. We can't wait to see what he dons on the red carpet at the Oscars, where he could take home a best supporting actor statue.
Mahershala Ali spiced things up on the red carpet at a Film Independent-hosted special screening of "Green Book" in Hollywood on Nov. 7, 2018. Instead of opting for a boring dress shirt, he went with a print under his suit, elevating his whole look.

Bow down! Our favorite British queen, "The Favourite" star Olivia Colman, made a statement at the 2019 Golden Globes. The actress brought home her first Globe while wearing this edgy Stella McCartney creation that included metallic chain-link details across her chest and down her arms. We'll see if she takes home best actress at the Academy Awards on Feb. 24!
At the 2018 Venice Film Festival, Olivia Colman looked regal in this rich red dress while promoting her flick "The Favourite." We loved the eye-catching neckline and capped sleeves as well as the train that gathered at her feet.
But not all of Olivia Colman's red carpet ensembles have been hits. Her boring black look at the BIFA Awards in London on Dec. 2, 2018, was pretty disappointing with its ill fit and overall dreary vibe.
"The Favourite" star Emma Stone's pale pink Louis Vuitton gown was one of our absolute favorites from the 2019 Golden Globes! The stunning Atelier design took 30 embroiderers more than 800 hours to craft, thanks to the intricate twisted glass tubes used to create the gown's scale pattern. Isn't it exquisite? It will be tough to beat this one on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, where she's up for best supporting actress.
Yikes! Where do we start? Emma Stone donned this ill-fitting, insanely sequined minidress with a plunging neckline at the NYFF56 Opening Night Gala Presentation and New York premiere of Fox Searchlight's "The Favourite" in New York City on Sept. 28, 2018, and left us scratching our heads.
Stunner status! Emma Stone looked gorgeous at the "The Favourite" premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2018. The silver metallic Louis Vuitton dress was sophisticated with its long sleeves but daring from the back (because there was no back!). The actress completed her look with an edgy dark lip and her hair gathered to one side, which really packed in the drama on this ensemble. We loved it!
Emma Stone kept things dark and dramatic at the 2018 Met Gala and we have to say, we were big fans! Emma's navy blue velvet Louis Vuitton gown was studded with plenty of gold hardware and featured shoulder pads that really completed the edgy ensemble. It's an unexpected look on the "The Favourite" actress, which might be why we loved it so much.
Though Rachel Weisz can typically be counted on for a fabulous fashion moment, she can't win them all! A prime example? Her ensemble at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Governors Awards in Hollywood on Nov. 18, 2018. We really weren't fans of this dull black frock with buttons down the front.
Drama, drama, drama! We adored "The Favourite" star Rachel Weisz's black-and-white Celine confection from the 2019 Golden Globes. From the plentiful white ruffles and off-the-shoulder sleeves to the simple silhouette of the skirt, we loved the details and contrast that the best supporting actress Oscar nominee served up with this look.

Fingers crossed, he'll pull out all the stops on Oscar night, where he's up for best actor for his work in "Bohemian Rhapsody."

We don't think Regina King could look any better if she tried! At the "If Beale Street Could Talk" premiere at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival, the actress dazzled in a figure-hugging cerulean gown that showed off her curves. Her decision to wear her hair up allowed that neckline to make a statement without a single piece of jewelry. Impressive!
Adam Driver opted to rock a rich color on the SAG Awards red carpet in Los Angeles on Jan. 27. The best supporting actor Oscar nominee, who's up for his work in "BlacKkKlansman," went with a deep brown tuxedo, which he paired with a black bow tie and dress shoes for a sharp look.
What a fashion moment for our favorite funnywoman! Melissa McCarthy — who switched gears to deliver an incredible dramatic performance in "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" — stunned in this purple Reem Acra frock at the 2019 Golden Globes. The long-sleeved gown was perfect with all its frills and sparkling star embellishments. Even her hair and makeup were perfection! We'll be excited to tune in on Feb. 24 to see what Melissa wears as she competes for best actress at the Oscars!

The star is up for best actress at the Academy Awards this year.
