Adkins' publicist tells Country Weekly and confirms to The Associated Press on Wednesday that the singer entered rehab after consuming alcohol during the Country Cruising cruise. TMZ reports that while on the cruise, Adkins got into a physical altercation with an Adkins impersonator who was performing karaoke. The site reports that Adkins had been sober for 12 years before taking a drink. Once the ship docked in Jamaica, Adkins checked into rehab.
"Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism," the singer's rep told People. "As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family's privacy will be respected."
The 52-year-old "Celebrity Apprentice" winner has canceled the remainder of his performances during the weeklong cruise that wraps up Sunday after stops in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico.
There were no other details available. An email to Norwegian Cruise Lines seeking information was not immediately returned.
