Guy Pearce and Kate Mestitz are no more!
On Oct. 12, the "Memento" star announced on Twitter that he and his wife of 18 years, a psychologist, had parted ways back in January.
"Rumours r true I'm afraid - Kate and I parted ways back in Jan. Sorry 2 be boring but we couldn't be closer. We'll love each other 4 ever xx," he tweeted.
The Australian actor also released a statement on Oct. 13 echoing the news.
"Kate and I will always love and support one another and be the best of friends," he said. "No one knows me like Kate does, and we'll forever be appreciative of our mutual respect. We've both grown enormously through our relationship, but sadly, the time has come to part ways."
Guy also tweeted two photos of his ex-wife, one of them posing happily together and another of a smiling Kate sitting outdoors by herself.
"The best 20+ years of my life - with this beautiful lady.....," he captioned the second shot.
According to People magazine, the duo first connected in 1980 while they were both studying at Geelong College in Victoria, Australia. They tied the knot in 1997.
"Having a partner who has nothing to do with Hollywood helps keep things in perspective," Guy reportedly told The Observer in 2012. "Our life is not in any way centered around celebrity, partly because we live in Melbourne and partly because of my reluctance to be involved in it."
The duo did not have children.
