The world lost an incredible talent, but many also lost a close friend. Joaquin Phoenix and Ethan Hawke were seen visiting Philip Seymour Hoffman's family on Feb. 4, following the tragic death of the beloved actor.

Phoenix, 39, and Hawke, 43, were photographed visiting Hoffman's estranged girlfriend Mimi O'Donnell separately at her downtown Manhattan home. The "Her" actor looked worn down as he bundled up in a jacket and tried to keep a low profile in sunglasses. (Phoenix can likely relate to Hoffman's rehab stint last May for heroin abuse, as he checked himself into rehab in April 2005 for alcoholism.) Hawke was spotted walking into the building later that evening.

One day earlier, Cate Blanchett and Justin Theroux were also photographed entering the apartment to pay their respects. The 44-year-old Oscar-nominated actress was seen carrying in toys for Hoffman and O'Donnell's three children: Cooper, 10, Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 5.

Theroux, 42, meanwhile, has been having a rough time with the loss. "Justin is totally broken up about losing Phil," an insider told Us of Jennifer Aniston's fiance. "He's doing his best to provide some comfort to Mimi and the kids. He can't believe this happened."

On Feb. 2, the beloved film and theater star was found dead at the age of 46 in his West Village apartment by his friend David Katz. He was discovered with a hypodermic needle in his arm and authorities recovered 65 bags of heroin. Family and friends will honor the late actor with a private memorial service in New York later this month.
