President Obama knew better than to take Nicki Minaj's lyrical endorsement of his opponent at face value.

On the track "Mercy," featured on her Young Money labelmate Lil Wayne's new mixtape, Minaj raps, "I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/You lazy bitches is f---ing up the economy."

On Monday, Obama, 51, addressed Minaj's verse during an interview with an Orlando, Florida radio station (quotes via NY Mag).

"I don't think [Sasha, 11, and Malia, 14] really listen to Nicki Minaj that much," he shared, admitting that he's not sure which tunes get the most play on his daughters' iPods these days. "But let's face it, they are now hipper than me."

As for Minaj's rapped "endorsement", "Yeah, I'm not sure that's exactly what happened. She likes to play different characters," he explained. (The Queens, NY-bred songstress is known for her outrageous alter egos, whom she portrays on stage, in her videos and in song).

The Young Money rapper took to Twitter Monday afternoon to confirm what POTUS (and Minaj fans everywhere) had suspected all along.

"Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor and sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do . . . *sends love and support*" she wrote, adding later, "Awesome! Now I can tell my grandchildren that the 1st black President of the United States took the time to address a Nicki Minaj question."
