Joe Rogan's Thoughts on Canada Joining the United States
Podcaster Joe Rogan made his stance clear in a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience — he doesn't believe Canada should become part of the United States, the New York Post reported.Speaking with comedian Mark Kosta on March 14, Rogan said, "I just want America and Canada to get along. I think it's ridiculous." Referring to the ongoing trade dispute between the two countries, he added with a laugh, "I don't really think they should be our 51st state. There. I said it."
While he acknowledged the hypothetical scenario could be entertaining —"It would be fun if Canada became the 51st star on Old Glory" — his overall message was one of reconciliation.
"We have to become friends with Canada again. This is so ridiculous," he emphasized, calling the disagreement "the dumbest f****** feud."
Here are four more takeaways from Rogan's 51st state stance, and why he thinks Greenland is the better option of the two.

Trump's Proposal and Rogan's Position
Joe Rogan's remarks were likely in response to recurring comments from President Donald Trump, who has floated the idea of making Canada the 51st U.S. state, even before imposing a 25 percent tariff on Canadian imports.Trump has framed his reasoning around trade and defense, arguing that Canada has taken advantage of American support.
Despite Rogan having hosted Trump on his podcast and expressing support for him in the past, he diverged from the former president's stance in this instance.
Why Rogan Prefers Greenland as the 51st State
Instead of adding Canada, Joe Rogan joked about a different possibility: incorporating Greenland. "I think Greenland is more accessible. Could probably buy that. If we want a 51st state, it's Greenland," he told Mark Kosta. He elaborated further, referencing climate change and untapped resources: "Plus, if global warming is real, because of all the digging and oil and all that s*** you know, [it]would be good to have a cold spot to eventually warm up."
Both he and Kosta pointed out the strategic value of Greenland, especially its rare earth minerals, as another reason the land might be a more appealing acquisition.
Criticism of Canadian Culture
While expressing a desire for renewed camaraderie between the two nations, Joe Rogan also took a jab at Canadian sociopolitical trends. "Canada's just on another level with their wokeness," he said.Speaking directly to viewers, he added a tongue-in-cheek plea: "Come back to us, Canada. Come back to us."
Trump's Tariff Threats and Nationalistic Rhetoric
During the same period, Donald Trump used his platform on Truth Social to intensify rhetoric against Canada, accusing it of economic dependence and unfair trade practices. "Canada is a Tariff abuser, and always has been, but the United States is not going to be subsidizing Canada any longer," he wrote. In a blunt statement about trade, he continued, "We don't need your Cars, we don't need your Lumber, we don't need your Energy, and very soon, you will find that out."
These declarations came amid preparations for new tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports, scheduled to begin on April 2.
