According to The Daily Beast, John Oliver called CBS' decision to pull the plug on Stephen Colbert's program "terrible, terrible news for the world of comedy."The Late Show — which first premiered in 1993 with David Letterman — built a legacy within the television industry. CBS canceled the series after Colbert publicly criticized their decision to settle their lawsuit with Donald Trump, but the network claimed it was "purely a financial decision."

John Oliver said he's enthusiastic to see what Stephen Colbert pulls off in the final episodes."I'm partly excited to see what they're gonna do for the next ten months," Oliver gushed.

"I love Stephen, I love his staff. I love that show," Oliver admitted. "Late-night shows mean a lot to me, not just because I work in them, but because even growing up in England, I would watch [David] Letterman's show, which of course was Stephen's show, and think about what a glamorous world that was."_
Despite fans' disappointment, John Oliver hinted at Stephen Colbert starting a new project once The Late Show franchise ends."I look forward to seeing what he's going to do next because that man will not stop," Oliver said.
