It didn't take long for things to get nasty between Mariah Carey and her ex James Packer.

Just a few days after several media outlets reported that there was at least a remote chance that these two could work out their differences, reconciliation seems to be the farthest thing from their minds. What is on their minds? Well, in Mariah's case, money.

In light of their breakup, the diva is demanding that James pay her $50 million, according to TMZ.

"She claims he got her to move from New York to L.A., uprooting her entire life, so he could be near his kids," TMZ reported on Oct. 28, adding that James allegedly made "financial promises" to her.

James is a bonafide billionaire, so he can certainly afford it.

The split isn't without its share of name calling and allegations. On Oct. 27, TMZ quoted a Mariah source who claimed that James did "something awful" to the singer's assistant on a yacht in Greece, but didn't get specific.

"Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since," the diva's rep told Entertainment Tonight. "The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah."

Mariah, TMZ said, was so traumatized that she had to cancel the South American leg of her tour, which also plays into her $50 million request.

The news this week that these two had split was rather shocking, but perhaps the writing was on the wall for some time.

"James has not been in a mentally healthy place and has not been present for Mariah or her family," a Mariah source told People magazine after the split. "His behavior was not a desirable situation for Mariah so she unfortunately had to leave him."

But a source close to James says he is far from mentally unstable and it's Mariah who has "issues."

"[It's] typical Mariah to just twist things that don't sound good to her. They split because she has issues," the source said.

"James is definitely an oddball, but a brilliant great guy," the source continued. "Mariah has had mental breakdowns in the past. She hasn't been acting very mentally stable lately. To put her issues on James is ridiculous."

Not long after reports of the split were initially published, there was a thought among many within the former couple's camps that a reconciliation was a possibility -- Mariah's rep even said the duo is "trying to work it out." But in light of all the bad blood and name calling, James' pal told People that the mogul and the singer "definitely won't be getting back together now."
