The crowd could barely contain its excitement inside Miami's AmericanAirlines Arena on the evening of March 15, 2016. Rihanna, performing in a sparkly, see-through outfit, was there as part of her "ANTI" world tour.
Then, all of a sudden and seemingly out of nowhere, rapper Drake, in leather pants, appeared on stage next to her for a turned up version of their hit duet "Work."
Rihanna greeted Drake with cuddles and kisses when he first walked on stage as the crowd roared:
"Work," which has been at the top of Billboard's Hot 100 for the past 4 weeks, is a dancehall-driven tune that inspires rotating hips and dirty dancing.
And that's exactly what Rihanna and Drake gave the eager crowd. The two danced like they were alone, like they were toying with each other, slowly rekindling a passionate romance. It was hot and the audience ate it up.
Drake stuck around to perform his song "Jumpman" before exiting the stage. Rihanna then reminded the crowd that her show is "full of surprises." Gifting them with Drake made the evening feel like a real holiday.
Of course, Rihanna and Drake have been an on-again-off-again couple for the past seven years. Their ups and downs have been well documented, with Drake once complaining that he felt "used" by the Bajan superstar.
He told the New York Times in 2010, "I was a pawn. You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I've done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear," Drake said of his time with Rihanna. "I was like, wow, this feels terrible."
The pair is clearly in a good place now. And fans hope their chemistry will lead to something real and long-lasting. In the meantime, we can all hang on to the memory of that one, steamy night in Miami.
