According to The Guardian, Jonathan Buma was on his way to catch an international flight when he was taken into custody.Buma was released on $10,000 bail on Tuesday, March 18. He has yet to enter a plea.

Jonathan Buma was accused of printing 130 confidential files with clear security warnings from his FBI office in October 2023.The Associated Press reported that, according to a court affidavit, after he filed a whistleblower complaint and testified before Congress, Buma went to his FBI office in Orange County, California, in October 2023 and printed copies of about 130 confidential files.

According to the Associated Press, the affidavit says that the files Jonathan Buma printed include "summaries of information provided by confidential informants, the identity of an informant and screenshots of text messages he exchanged with an informant."The affidavit also stated Buma included private FBI information in a draft of his book.

Jonathan Buma told his bosses in an email that he would be taking a leave of absence. During the break, excerpts of his book were promoted on social media.The project included information about the FBI investigating weapons of mass destruction in other parts of the world.

Rudy Giuliani had his own run-in with the law: The former mayor was charged with participating in election fraud.
"This is yet another example of partisan actors weaponizing the criminal justice system to interfere with the 2024 presidential election through outlandish charges against President Trump and anyone willing to take on the permanent Washington political class," Giuliani's spokesperson, Ted Goodman, said in a statement at the time.
