Jake Tapper didn't hold back on Wednesday, June 18, calling out President Donald Trump for what he described as an "unfortunate lack of seriousness" in handling rising tensions in the Middle East."Whether it's President Trump's Truth Social post glibly telling the 10 million people of Tehran to flee their city or Vice President J.D. Vance getting into twitter spats about who leaked what, this is a time for gravity and purpose," Tapper said.
Before the CNN host's commentary aired, Trump was asked whether he would launch a strike on Iran. He gave a casual response, saying, "I may do it. I may not do it. Nobody knows what I'm going to do."

Jake Tapper also pointed out a growing rift between President Donald Trump and his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, when it comes to spreading information on Iran.Back in March, Gabbard claimed that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons — something Trump publicly disputed.
On Wednesday, June 18, he told reporters, "I don't care what she said. I think they were very close to having one."

Jake Tapper closed his segment by asking President Donald Trump to show the same caution he once displayed as a candidate when it comes to foreign policy decisions."We here at 'The Lead,' we do not pretend to have the answers as to what President Trump should do. We were not elected to do so," he said.
"We just hope that the same skepticism that President Trump brought to these questions of war and peace as a candidate, the same willingness to challenge conventional thinking in D.C. We hope that is brought to bear now."
