Donald Trump promised to bring down the cost of eggs in his presidential campaign — and later claimed success — but new data shows that despite what the president has said, egg prices are still dramatically up in the early months of his second presidency.

During a press conference, Donald Trump was excited to discuss the cost of food despite it increasing amid a trade war.
"Eggs. So when I got in, the press went absolutely crazy the first week — they said, 'Eggs have quadrupled in price.' I said, 'I just got here, tell me about it.' … Our team did a great job and eggs are down now 79% — and they're all over the place. And this was a problem that somebody else would've taken a long time to cure," Trump said in
a video shared on X by journalist Aaron Rupar on Monday, April 7.

Despite what Donald Trump said a few days earlier, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index report released on April 10 showed that egg prices are still high.
"According to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, retail egg prices have risen more than 60 percent since March 2024, reaching $6.23 for a dozen large, Grade A eggs in March 2025 — the highest price ever recorded,"

While Americans become more concerned about living expenses, Donald Trump is singing his praises on X.
"Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday, April 7.
"This is despite the fact that the biggest abuser of them all, China, whose markets are crashing, just raised its Tariffs by 34%, on top of its long term ridiculously high Tariffs (Plus!), not acknowledging my warning for abusing countries not to retaliate," he continued. "They've made enough, for decades, taking advantage of the Good OL' USA! Our past 'leaders' are to blame for allowing this, and so much else, to happen to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."

During his 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump used rising inflation as a selling point.
"A vote for Trump means your groceries will be cheaper," he said on the campaign trail.
"When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day 1," Trump told supporters.

Not only has Donald Trump not been able to keep his word about prices, but his impending trade war continues to impact the cost of goods, businesses and the stock market.
"THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!," Trump wrote on Truth Social, uring followers to purchase stocks at a low cost.
