While breaking down the data, CNN reporter Harry Enten claimed Donald Trump is "way underwater" with how he handed the ICE protests in Los Angeles: "I think we can say that Donald Trump has lost the political battle when it comes to what has happened out in Los Angeles," the television personality said while displaying the poll numbers. "Donald Trump's net approval rating in L.A. [is] overall way, way, way underwater at -15 points. How about him on independents or those who don't identify with either major party? Way even lower: -24 points.""Of course, this is happening on what should be one of Donald Trump's — in fact, the best issue for Donald Trump: immigration. Yet when it comes to these Los Angeles protests, 15 points underwater overall and 24 points underwater among independents. Not good," he continued. "This is his core issue and he's losing at his core issue at this point."

Donald Trump deployed nearly 5,000 National Guard troops including 700 Marines into Los Angeles to "support" ICE agents amid the protests over immigration raids.California Governor Gavin Newsom sued the current commander-in-chief for the military action. However, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that Trump could stay in control of the California National Guard.
"Affording the President that deference, we conclude that it is likely that the President lawfully exercised his statutory authority under § 12406(3), which authorizes federalization of the National Guard when the President is unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States," the decision said.

Gavin Newsom called out Donald Trump for overstepping his power by using military force to stop people from protesting the mass deportations: "His supposed concern for the men and women in uniform is not based on their loyalty to this country and its people but to him and his cause," the Democrat said. "What more evidence do we need than January 6 — and his pardons for those involved including those who violently assaulted police officers that day? Authoritarian regimes begin by targeting the most vulnerable.""Trump and his loyalists thrive on division because it allows them to consolidate power and exert even greater control," he added. "If some of us can be snatched off the streets without a warrant, based only on suspicion or skin color, then none of us are safe."
