Donald Trump credited Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for putting forward Dr. Casey Means for the job."Bobby thought she was fantastic," the president said. "She's a brilliant woman who went through Stanford and, as I understand it, she basically wanted to be an academic as opposed to a surgeon. I think she graduated first in her class at Stanford. Bobby really thought she was great. I don't know her. I listened to the recommendation of Bobby. I met her yesterday and once before. She's a very outstanding person — a great academic, actually — so I think she'll be great."

On Wednesday, May 7, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to reveal Dr. Casey Means' nomination for America's surgeon general after parting ways with his original pick, Fox News contributor Dr. Janette Nesheiwat."I am pleased to announce that Dr. Casey Means, will be nominated as our next surgeon general of the United States of America," he wrote. "Casey has impeccable 'MAHA' credentials and will work closely with our wonderful secretary of health and human services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to ensure a successful implementation of our agenda in order to reverse the chronic disease epidemic and ensure great health, in the future, for ALL Americans. Her academic achievements, together with her life's work, are absolutely outstanding."

Despite Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. singing her praises, Dr. Casey Means reportedly does not have an active medical license.Per the Oregon Medical Board, she was first licensed in 2018 with a focus on otolaryngology (commonly referred to as "ear, nose and throat" or "ENT" medicine). As of today, her medical license is "inactive."
However, on Means' official website, she makes it clear she is not currently practicing. "Dr. Casey is no longer seeing patients and is not able to comment on specific medical conditions or provide any medical guidance," her FAQ section states.

Dr. Casey Means' nomination comes after Donald Trump cut ties with his first choice for the role, Fox News contributor Dr. Janette Nesheiwat.The former medical director of the healthcare company CityMD was set to appear before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Thursday, May 8. However, after right-wing activist Laura Loomer called out her support for COVID-19 vaccines, Nesheiwat's nomination was seemingly withdrawn.
