"The DOGE leaders are each and every member of the president's cabinet — and the president himself — who is wholeheartedly committed to cutting waste, fraud and abuse from our government," Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Thursday, May 29, when asked about how DOGE's leadership structure will change.Elon Musk said his goodbyes to DOGE on Wednesday, May 28, writing on X, "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."

Karoline Leavitt later explained how the Donald Trump administration will continue to focus on DOGE's goals without Elon Musk at the helm: "The entire Cabinet is involved," she explained. "I spoke to the president about it this morning, and the entire Cabinet understands the need to cut government waste, fraud and abuse, and each Cabinet secretary at their respective agencies is committed to that."_
While Elon Musk is expected to return to his life as a businessman, DOGE's staff will continue to look for ways the federal government can save money and better allocate funds."They'll continue to work with the respective DOGE employees who have onboarded as political appointees at all of these agencies," Karoline Leavit said. "Surely the mission of DOGE will continue."
