Freebird! For six years, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama dated and many thought they'd be headed down the aisle, but something happened along the way … they unexpectedly broke up.

On Thursday, Demi spoke with Elvis Duran about her new single life, saying she's "free."

"I stopped giving an 'f' at like 15. You only get one life, so if you don't do what makes you happy in this moment, you're doing yourself an injustice for the rest of your life," she said.

She didn't specially mention her ex, but she certainly hinted at it.

"My life is in the middle of a lot of changes right now," she said. "I don't really a have a house at this moment, so I'm actually kind of living out of a suitcase on the road, so my tour bus is my home right now."

During the relationship, Demi and Wilmer were fairly inseparable, but they were both fairly private about their lives, only speaking about each other on occasion.

In early June, they announced that they had split.

"After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship. This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as friends," they said in a mutual statement, adding, "we will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years."

Now that she's experiencing single life for the first time in six years, she said, "I feel really amazing. I feel really great and I'm growing. My life is just really, really exciting for me because I'm growing. It's new and fresh, and I feel free."

The radio host praised her for her "growth" in life.

"I have so many people around me who I trust and that I talk to about things and they are the ones that are quick to tell me 'Hey, you may be having a bad day, but look what you've overcome,'" she said. "So that's what's really cool, to be able to surround yourself with people like that."
