"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" stars Rob McElhenney and his wife, Kaitlin Olson, helped a family reunite with their lost dog, and the heartwarming tale was all chronicled on social media.
The actress explained that she and Rob saw a dog alone on a Los Angeles freeway and, with the help of another woman named Bridget, stopped traffic to help the pup out.
"This very brave boy ran for his life on a busy highway and really jacked up his paws but we got him, fixed him up and found his family!!" she wrote. "Thank you so much to @farfetchedreunites and to @bridget.arevalo for being the most bad—s highway dog rescue partner/stranger. You're Chance's (and my) hero!!"
She added, "Get your pet chipped and make sure he/she wears a collar with your info on it at all times! Gates get left open!"
After the rescue, Ron and Kaitlin then took the dog to the vet, where he was dubbed "Brad Pitt" because, as the actor says, he's "so damn beautiful."
"He didn't have a chip but he was clearly well taken care of and loved," Rob said on his Instagram Story.
Along the way, Rob renamed "Brad Pitt" to "Frank Reynolds," as an ode to Danny DeVito's character on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." As Rob shared Brad-Pitt-turned-Frank-Reynold's tale on his Instagram Story, he found out that the dog's owners were desperately searching for him. He also found out the dog's real name is Chance.
Quickly, Rob and Kaitlin arranged for the dog to be reunited with his family.
"I gotta be honest, I'm a little [sad]," Rob wrote. "But happy for this guy."
In posting a picture of the dog just moments before the reunion, he added, "Social media may be ripping apart the fabric of our society but … Sometimes it's pretty great."
In completing the story of Chance, Rob shared a video of Chance being reunited with his family on April 23. Chance's tail couldn't stop wagging. Kaitlin shared a photo, as well.
The woman who helped connect Rob with Chance's family, Helen Pitts, said the dog had been missing since April 20.
"Kaitlin and Bridget chased Chance on the [freeway] for a long distance before being caught, then Kaitlin rushed him to a vet to treat his burnt paws," Helen said. "Thanks to their love and caring, Chance's broken family has been made whole again. Their tears have turned to cheers…and they will never forget the kindness of these two super heroes who put themselves in danger to rescue Chance off of the busy thruway. Simply amazing! Kindness matters. Welcome home, Chance."
