When the news of Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom ending their nine-year relationship hit the internet in mid-2025, many were left wondering who the two celebrities would end up dating next. As it usually goes, it didn't take long for the first whispers and rumors to start circulating online.
The rumors, however, were sparked by Bloom himself, after being pictured sharing a cozy moment with actress Rachel Lynn Matthews – dressed as Perry – during a Halloween party. Despite Mathews being in a relationship, the photo quickly started circulating online, sparking dating rumors, all fueled by Mathews' Perry costume.
While it's not uncommon for superstars to date other celebrities, like singers dating actors and vice versa, it's far less common for singers to date public figures or individuals outside of the entertainment industry. So, when the news broke that Perry, one of the most successful female singers of the 21st century, and Justin Trudeau, a Canadian politician and the Prime Minister of Canada from 2015 to 2025, started dating, the world stood in shock.
Now that the couple has finally made their relationship Instagram official, let's take a look at the timeline of their fresh-out-of-the-oven relationship!

Destiny or simply good timing?
Trudeau and his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau separated back in 2023, ending their 18-year relationship that resulted in three kids. Coming into 2025, Trudeau was a single man with a schedule busier than most. In early 2025, however, due to a combination of factors (including pressure from the Canadian public and recently elected President Donald Trump), he decided to step down from his position of prime minister, ending a decade-long chapter that made him the 23rd prime minister of Canada.
With Perry and Bloom splitting up not too long after Trudeau's resignation, both Perry and Trudeau were in a similar boat: having JUST ended their decade-long relationships and open to meeting new people. While it's unclear how the duo first got together, it didn't take long after Perry and Bloom's breakup for the first rumors to hit the tabloids.
The first rumors hit TMZ
While TMZ stands apart from reputable internet source like CBS News, Montreal Gazette or Casino Guru Canada, there's one thing they know better than anyone else: breaking entertainment news first. On July 28, TMZ was the first to post a series of photographs featuring Perry and Trudeau. In them, the pair is seen walking around Montreal's Mount Royal Park, then popping into Le Violon for some food. According to TMZ, the pair was greeted by the chef himself, with Perry seeming very attentive to Trudeau.
A few days later, Trudeau was photographed at one of Perry's concerts in Montreal, further fueling speculations about their meetings being more than just a coincidence.
Throughout August and September, multiple sources reported that the pair was still actively seeing each other but did not plan to make their relationship official just yet. With extremely busy schedules, kids, Perry touring the world, and Trudeau figuring out his next steps after stepping down from his prime minister role, sources said the pair was intentionally keeping the pace slow and was "open to see where things go."
On October 11, the duo was spotted kissing on Perry's super yacht in Santa Barbara, California, solidifying their relationship in the eyes of the public. Just a few days later, on October 25, they were spotted enjoying a cabaret show at the Crazy Horse in Paris, celebrating Perry's 41st birthday.

Making it social media official
The couple decided to go social media official in early December, starting with Trudeau's X post, which features him and Perry in Japan alongside Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife. He captioned the post, "Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone."
Just a day later, December 6, Perry shared her own Instagram carousel highlighting her favorite moments from the December trip to Japan. The pictures include a face-to-face selfie with Trudeau, confirming the speculations that the pair are in a relationship in front of her more than 200 million followers. The post reads, "Tokyo times on tour and more."
What's next?
While the pair seems to be enjoying each other's company, both are still determined to "take things slow" and "do their best to figure it all out." Sources say both are fully committed to trying to make it work, despite their busy schedules.
Making this their first post-breakup romance, it will be interesting to see how far they can take it. Both share the same values and ideologies, have kids from previous relationships, juggle various commitments and have demanding, high-profile careers filled with public interest. Despite coming from different worlds, many of their challenges are the same, and if they manage to handle their busy schedules, they might just become one of the most powerful couples of the next year!
