Meghan Markle is not letting go of her royal title, Duchess of Sussex.
The former actress appears to use "preemptive branding" to ensure people always view her as royal, in case Prince William strips her and Prince Harry of their titles.

How Meghan is using "preemptive branding"
Before sitting down for an interview with Harper's Bazaar in New York City, journalist Kaitlyn Greenidge claimed Meghan's title was declared upon entering the room.
"We're in a grand brownstone on the Upper East Side that belongs to one of Meghan's friends. When I enter, the house manager announces, 'Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,' even though we appear to be the only other two people in the house," she wrote.

According to an additional report, the Suits star had her royal title announced to the room while visiting children at the La Brea tar pits in Los Angeles, Calif.
Meghan's more frequent use of the Sussex surname is a strategic move to ensure that it's part of her identity, The Royalist claimed.
Why Meghan and Harry's titles could be removed
After King Charles III officially stripped Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor of his honors due to his connection to Jeffrey Epstein, William will likely be strict about who gets to use their title when he ascends the throne — especially since Meghan and the Spare author left England in 2020.

William could also examine the titles of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as well as those of his own children, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte, who would also have their honors halted until they can decide whether they wish to serve as working royals.
Meghan faces backlash over using her title
Many people believe Meghan should stop using her title if she's not working for The Firm. "Not surprised at her pretentiousness, but I am surprised it's taken others this long to notice," one X user wrote.
"She really wants people to use that title to associate it with her and thinks the British royal family wouldn't be able to take it from her. She doesn't get that it doesn't belong to her, and they can take it if they want, doesn't matter if she styles herself with it or not," a second person said.

"M is deluded if she has her doorman calling out her title. Her royal title is worth nothing to her now, and she won't have it much longer, so why be all desperate overusing it?" a third chimed in.
