There are now two bikini models in Ashley Graham's family tree — her and her mom.
While shooting a campaign for Swimsuits For All in Morocco, the plus-size model was joined by her 53-year-old mother, Linda. It was the first time Linda had donned a bikini in three decades.
"I got it from my mama," Ashley captioned an Instagram snap of her and Linda in matching bikinis. "Introducing @themamagraham in Morocco for my new @swimsuitsforall campaign!"
Linda posted an image to Instagram, as well.
"String bikini 👙 at 53," she wrote. "Thank you #swimsuitsforall."
Likewise, Swimsuits For All shared several images from the shoot, including an image of the swimsuit-wearing women posing with a camel.
Linda also recorded a verbal letter to her daughter.
"Dear Ashley, before you were a model, an icon, a personality, you were my little girl," she said in the video. "I raised you to be confident, courageous and fearless and I am so proud of the woman you are today. I'm proud of our journey together, and I'll be with you every step of the way, watching the lives you touch, the people you inspire. But most of all, I'm proud to be one of the many you've led along the way."
The mother-daughter duo spoke to Vogue about the shoot.
Linda, Ashley said, "was with me from the start and helped me through all the trials and tribulations it took to get to this point, so being able to have her actually in front of the camera with me and modeling my designs felt like such a surreal moment When they came to me with the [concept,] I was like, 'That is such a good idea, don't even ask her — I'm going to tell her! She has no choice!'"
While dressing in two-piece swimwear is nothing new for Ashley, the same couldn't be said for Linda, who's usually a more modest dresser.
"I had never put on a string bikini. Ever," she says. "Here I am at 53 years old and in a hot-pink string-bikini [on set], but I was kind of in love with that swimsuit!"
Linda said it had been 30 years since she last wore a bikini.
"It was fun because when we were [in Bali] taking pictures in our pool, Ashley was giving me pointers and tips, and so when this opportunity showed up, it was like, 'Okay, let's do this!'" she told Vogue. "It was so comforting having her there, making me feel comfortable — it's funny how the tables have turned."
