Grimes and Elon Musk's son's name is a little too unique for California — at least legally.
The couple planned on naming their newborn son X Æ A-12 Musk, but a Golden State law says that the couple cannot use numbers or symbols on their child's birth certificate. The child's legal name must only include the 26 letters in the English alphabet, TMZ reports.
The couple can call their son whatever they want, but his legal name must fit the state's criteria.
Elon announced on Monday that he and his girlfriend had welcomed a son. The newborn quickly became a trending topic after the Tesla CEO announced the child's name.
On Wednesday, Grimes took to Twitter to reveal the significance of the child's name, although many were simply left confused.
"X, the unknown variable," she wrote. "Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence) •A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent. + (A=Archangel, my favorite song) (metal rat)"
Elon noted it's actually a SR-71.
"I am recovering from surgery and barely alive so may my typos b forgiven but, damnit," the new mom tweeted back. "That was meant to be profound."
This is the first child for Grimes and the sixth for Elon.
