A star of the beloved film "Crazy, Stupid, Love" has revealed something personal: they have a new name and they are non-binary.
"Hi. My name is Lio. My pronouns are they/them," Lio Tipton, previously known as Analeigh, wrote on Instagram this week. "I am proud to announce I am queer and I identify as non binary."
It's no coincidence that Lio's announcement comes during June, which is Pride month.
"I hope to give as much love and support back to those who continue to show love and support for the Pride community at large," they added.
Lio first rose to fame while competing on Cycle 11 of "America's Next Top Model" in 2008, finishing in third place and ultimately signing with Ford Models. Three years later, they landed the role of babysitter Jessica Riley in the 2011 romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love," which also starred Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon.
After the Instagram announcement, a fan expressed confusion about what non-binary meant.
"It means that I do not identify with the tradition binary gender structure. I do not and have not for a long time, felt whole fitting into one box," they responded. "It allows me to understand myself outside of how people expect me to. I've made the choice to transition to non binary. I am pansexual which is separate from ones gender identity. Seems I'm not a box person 🙇🙆 too claustrophobic . It means something unique to everyone, and that's the beautiful thing about it. I hope this helps some."
Lio has also shut down a previous Instagram account and officially changed their Instagram handle to @liotipton.
It's believed that Lio is dating Walt Disney Studios Executive Chaz Salembier, as they were photographed together in February. Lio called Chaz "my forever Valentine."
