Danny Masterson and his defense team need more time to prepare for his rape case because of Leah Remini's long-running anti-Scientology campaign, at least that's what the actor is claiming.
Citing new legal documents, TMZ said the "That '70s Show" star alleges that Leah has been influencing Los Angeles detectives and the prosecution in his case, even claiming she urged three women to make sexual assault accusations against him.
The actor has been charged with raping three women —all identified as Jane Doe — between 2001 and 2003. He denies all the accusations.
Danny, an active Scientologist, and Leah, an ex-Scientologist, have been at odds for years. He once accused her of "religious bigotry" after she left the church and began urging others to cut ties.
In his new court documents, Danny alleges that Leah was actively involved in his accuser's statements to authorities and implied that their spat was a prime reason for the accusations. He also says Leah uses local police as her personal security and, because of this, curries favor with them. He further argues that cops are "starstruck" by the actress.
Danny's team argues that it's difficult to prepare a proper defense under the current timeline because of the alleged bias and affection toward Leah.
If convicted on all charges, Danny faces 45 years to life behind bars.
