Dax Shepard has nothing to hide. Last fall, the former "Parenthood" star announced that he had relapsed after 16 years of sobriety. He's now taken steps to make sure his sobriety stays in tact.
In a chat with Self magazine, Dax's wife, Kristin Bell, said they have drug tests at home.
"[Dax said,] 'You can drug-test me whenever you want. I'm going to buy some tests. I'm going to have them in the house. If you ever feel nervous, I want you to have access to this and I'll do it, no questions asked,'" she told the mag.
Kristen has yet to make him take one.
"He's just good at trying, and that's all you can ask of anyone. No one's perfect," she continued. "He's proven to me that he is committed to evolving and he loves personal growth."
Dax spoke of his relapse on his "Armchair Expert" podcast last September. At the time, he was recovering from several motorcycle injuries and admitted that he was getting "shadier and shadier" about his pill intake. He realized he was walking down a dark path when he started hiding his pill intake from his wife.
"I now start getting pretty visibly detoxy and withdrawly. And I lie and start saying I'm having an arthritis flare-up," he said.
Not long after Dax's admission, Kristen gave Ellen DeGeneres an update on her husband of eight years.
"He is actually doing really great. I mean look, everybody's up against their own demons. Sometimes it's anxiety and depression, sometimes it's substance abuse and the thing I love most about Dax is.. he was able to tell me and tell us and say we need a different plan," she said. "One of the main reasons I love him is he's also addicted to growth. He's addicted to evolving. He was like, 'I don't want to risk this family, and I did, so let's put new things in place to make sure it doesn't happen again.'"
