It's been a week since Dr. Dre was rushed to the hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm, and doctors are apparently no closer to figuring out why it occurred.
TMZ reports that the hip-hop mogul is still in the Intensive Care Unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, as doctors are keeping him there in case he suffers another medical emergency — in which case time would be of the essence.
Still, there is hope that the worst is over, and sources tell TMZ that a "bad outcome" isn't expected, but doctors have told Dre's family to stay cautiously optimistic.
It's not publicly known whether Dre has gone into surgery, but it seems likely.
Of course, brain aneurysms are very serious and result in death about half of the time. The majority of those who survive a brain aneurysm suffer permanent neurological damage.
Dr. Dre was taken to the hospital on Jan. 4. After news of hospitalization made headlines, the rapper posted an encouraging message on Instagram.
"Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. I'm doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team," he wrote on Jan. 5. "I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!"
