From the moment you set foot in an arcade, your senses are pleasantly overwhelmed by an array of sights and sounds. Neon lights illuminate a room full of laughter as kids experience the first thrill of a win. Nostalgic sound effects trigger memories, perhaps of visiting arcades with your parents, learning what it feels like to succeed, For Joseph Levy Cohen, more prominently known as Dark Joseph Ravine, these lessons transpired into something much bigger. The shift toward winning created a perpetual motivator for success that Ravine pursued.
He first visited an arcade when he was just 14. He discovered a rare talent that drew him to pursue his talent. He was soon winning iPads, MacBooks and other electronics. Eventually, Ravine earned a Guinness World Record in 2017 from amassing the largest train of arcade tickets. Many would have given up; but Ravine saw this as an invitation to set goals and stay persistent in achieving them. Sure, arcades are "fun" places to have a good time, but they offer plenty of real-world skills.
However, Ravine's drive for success wasn't brought on by an easy life. He didn't have everything handed to him on a silver spoon. Contrarily, Ravine dealt with bullying in his early years. Sadly, this is a common experience for many kids who go against the grain, though we know that daring to be different is, inherently, a good thing. Again, this didn't stop Ravine from trying to make something of himself. One could argue that he wouldn't have stepped foot into his first arcade had he not been bullied. His school life prompted persistence and resilience, translating into adulthood seamlessly.
His brand, "Kindness for Success," isn't just a mantra–it's a lifestyle. After school, Ravine found plentiful kindness at the arcades he competed at. Of course, he could have seen other attendees as competitors, but instead they fostered a sense of community, making Ravine realize the importance of authentic kindness. The brand shares positive messages and uplifting stories, while giving back to its supporters through giveaways of high-ticket items–like the gaming consoles that got Ravine his initial success.
He just kept going from there, too. His debut novel, a children's book titled, Watch Out! It's Nolan, may have been fictional, but it carried a true message with it. Ravine never wants another kid to experience what he did, so he ensures to warn of the dangers of bullying. While it initially drove him to success, it was a painful process to endure. He has pushed through his former shell; outside of writing, Nolan enjoys success in entertainment, participating in acting projects like a reality film, Steinberg Rides Again.
As a social media influencer and marketer, he has a massive following. Still, his life isn't perfect, but he persists just as he did at Dave & Busters while he earning his Guinness World Record. That's the key; kindness drives success, and as long as you lead your life with it, abundance will follow. Ravine proves that true success can be found anywhere, even in seemingly simple hobbies, like arcade games.
