Kirstie Alley is blasting the Oscars' new diversity standards for best picture eligibility.

On Sept. 8, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that beginning in 2024, films nominated for the award show's top prize must meet at least two of four new diversity and inclusion standards, all of which are meant to encourage diversity and equitable representation on screen and off.
"This is a disgrace to artists everywhere…can you imagine telling Picasso what had to be in his f–ing paintings," Kirstie wrote in a since-deleted tweet, according to Page Six. "You people have lost your minds. Control artists, control individual thought .. OSCAR ORWELL."
She later tried to clarify her position.
"I deleted my first tweet about the new rules for best movie OSCARS because I feel it was a poor analogy & misrepresented my viewpoint," she wrote. "I am 100% behind diversity inclusion & tolerance. I'm opposed to MANDATED ARBITRARY percentages relating to hiring human beings in any business."
Kirstie has never won an Oscar.
"The aperture must widen to reflect our diverse global population in both the creation of motion pictures and in the audiences who connect with them," Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement. "We believe these inclusion standards will be a catalyst for long-lasting, essential change in our industry."
