New details of Christina Grimmie’s death were revealed at a police press conference in Orlando on Saturday morning.

As Gossip Cop reported, Grimmie was shot and killed as she signed autographs after a concert on Friday night. She was 22. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police called her brother a “hero” for tackling the gunman before anyone else was injured. The shooter then turned the gun on himself, committing suicide.

At this morning’s press conference, which took place just hours after the tragedy, the lead officer said, “It appears that a white male, 21 years of age, approached Christina Grimmie… This white male approached her and opened fire, striking her.” He declined to say where she was shot.

The official went on to note, “The suspect in this case is not from Orlando. This suspect traveled to Orlando [from another city in Florida] to apparently commit this crime, and had plans to travel back to where he came from.” The man had two handguns on him, as well as two additional loaded magazines, and a large hunting knife.

Police are examining the “origin” of the guns, and going through the suspect’s cell phone and computer “to find a motive for this crime,” it was said. The officer further noted that, right now, “There’s no indication that he knew her.” And at this time, there is also no known history at this point of the shooter having a criminal past.

Detectives will meet with Grimmie’s family later today, and the gunman’s name is expected to be released sometime afterward, after a preliminary investigation is completed in the jurisdiction of the shooter’s hometown. Grimmie is pictured above at a Humane Society Gala just last month.
