Welcome to Cuba! Or should we say Kuba!
This week, several of the Kardashian children — Kim, Khloe, Kourtney — headed to Cuba to take in the sights, sounds and culture of the Caribbean nation. Khloe, for one, has been letting fans experience their trip via her Instagram page.
She's posted several snaps from the country, with a few including her sister and BFF Malika Haqq, who joined the trip, as did Kim's husband Kanye West.
However, not everyone is happy about their trip, especially since cameras for the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" have been rolling the whole time.
South Florida representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who was born in Havana, released a statement to People that says, "I know it's cool for celebrities to go to Cuba, but the Cuban people don't experience the glamorous Havana that is featured on social media. Far from photo shoots and fruity drinks, everyday Cubans experience a different, sad reality.
"Now, the Kardashians are parachuting into the island to tape their vapid TV show — Haven't the Cuban people suffered enough?," she asked.
She also tweeted her displeasure. "How much of the #Cuban ppl's reality will be in this 'reality' show?" she wondered, accompanying the tweet with a gif of "Star Wars" character Han Solo rolling his eyes.
Others aren't happy with an image Khloe posted under former dictator Fidel Castro's name.
"Havana," she captioned the snap.
The Internet is reaming her out for that snap. "He's also had a lot of people killed and is a massive human rights violator but hey, viva!," one commenter wrote. Another said, "the name you're standing under is the reason why a lot of my family in Cuba is living in poverty. por favor edúcate."
Other images haven't garnered as much online vitriol. Since arriving in the nation, Khloe has posted images of her crew smoking cigars. "Pablo was here! Cuba," she captioned one snap. In another, showing her and Kourtney smoking a cigar, she captions it, "Bemba," which is Cuban slang for "big lip."
Another shows Khloe and Malika smoking, which she caption in Spanish telling her BFF: "I love you with all my heart.
Khloe also posted a quick video of her doing a bit of catwalk in what looks to be the same building where she took the controversial "Fidel" photo. She captions the video, "Bendito baby," which translates to "blessed baby."
To be fair, it doesn't appear that Khloe is intentionally trying to rile the public's feathers with her photos. Reflecting on the trip, she posted a snap from the streets of Cuba.
"With everyday, my goal is to expand my mind. Now, it has been filled with new memories and knowledge of culture, food, traditions, daily life…." she wrote. "It will never go back to yesterday's dimensions! I'm so blessed to be able to appreciate another's culture. God is GREAT! Thank you for my opportunities."
We can't wait to catch up with this vacation on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians!"
