The bond between Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump is officially broken.
The two women were rather close for several years, but their friendship took a nosedive when Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton faced off in the contentious 2016 election.
"I would say we were friends," Chelsea told Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" on Thursday, Sept. 8. Detailing their friendship, Chelsea added, "She's not the person I called when I was curious about something for my kids or if I was debating a life decision, but we were definitely friends. And then she went to the dark side."
Although Hillary and Bill Clinton's daughter didn't detail what exactly she meant by "the dark side," she seemed to be referring to Donald's campaign — especially given that the former friends haven't spoken since 2016.
During the interview with Andy, Chelsea also countered a statement in Jared Kushner's book that claimed Ivanka — to whom he's married — invited Chelsea to dinner after the election.
"It is true that I spoke to Ivanka in November 2016. It's the last time I have spoken to her," Chelsea said. "But I do not recall being invited to dinner."
Before the election, Chelsea, 42, and Ivanka, 40, said politics wouldn't come between their relationship.
"She's always aware of everyone around her and ensuring that everyone is enjoying the moment," Chelsea told Vogue of Ivanka in 2015. "It's an awareness that in some ways reminds me of my dad, and his ability to increase the joy of the room. There's nothing skin-deep about Ivanka. And I think that's a real tribute to her because certainly anyone as gorgeous as she is could have probably gone quite far being skin-deep."
Not long after, Ivanka told Harper's Bazaar of Chelsea, "I still consider her a very close friend, and she considers me as well. We have a great relationship. I'm not running for public office, and neither is she, so of course we're still friends."
Near the end of Donald's term, Chelsea did an about face, telling Andy Cohen in 2020, "I have no interest in being friends with someone who is not only complicit but actively taking part in this administration's every day collision of cruelty and incompetence. We were in touch at the beginning of the campaign, but it's just really hard when there's someone who's actively embracing their candidate, whether it's their father or not, who is trafficking in racism and sexism and anti-Semitism and Islamophobia and homophobia and transphobia and conspiracy theories and lies and is so fundamentally corrupt."
