On Nov. 4, the clothing giant posted a picture of a hoodie that was half red and half blue, a reference to the Republican and Democratic parties. "The one thing we know, is that together, we can move forward," the tweet said.
The tweet was ridiculed so widely that the Gap took it down.
"Yay we can just walk sideways depending on the city we're in," Chrissy commented.
Others slammed the company for the tweet, with one person saying it was "too soon for this message."
"A GREAT example of why it's smart to be paused on social right now," another said.
Another added, "Sorry I'm not zipping myself to people who don't believe I'm deserving of basic human rights."
Many users told the brand to "read the room."
The Gap told the New York Times that that hoodie was never actually for sale.
