Famed fashion designer Christian Siriano believes celebrities will be more comfortable than ever at this year's Emmys.
While some celebrities say they plan to dress up for the virtual awards show, it's likely that many looks won't exactly be ready for the red carpet.
"I think it's a mix of classy, fabulous pajamas, or elevated suits that are comfortable. Maybe a few slippers," Christian told E! News. "I think actors and actresses right now, they want to be themselves, and a little more who they are. I think that's really nice to see."
Over the years, Christian has dressed numerous stars for award shows. This year, he said, will be the "toughest" awards season in terms of fashion.
"It's the weirdest awards season ever in the history, but honestly 2020 bring it," he said.
The Emmys will indeed be vastly different this year. Although Jimmy Kimmel will host from the Staples Center, no audience will be attending due to the COVID-19 pandemic — nor will there be a red carpet.
Producers will also send camera crews or camera equipment to all the nominees, meaning there will be about 140 live feeds coming in from around the world.
One of the show's executive producers, Ian Stewart, told Variety, "They might be at home, they might be in the garden, might be in a hotel, they might be standing on the side of the street. It doesn't really matter, wherever they feel comfortable. But we want to bring every nominee that we can logistically, live into the show."
He added, "We're not trying to make the Zoomies, we're trying to make the Emmys."
