Is Taylor Swift trying to tell us something?
Online sleuths are convinced that the "Lover" singer is set to collaborate with Katy Perry on a song, and the alleged evidence lays in a sweater.
On May 7, Taylor took to Instagram to post a picture of herself sitting on a couch drinking a glass of wine. The picture and accompanying caption — "biiig isolation" — are innocuous. But fans are convinced there is more here than meets the eye.
In the snap, Taylor dons a white sweater adorned with blue and yellow daisies. It just so happens that Katy — Taylor's one-time nemesis and now ally — announced on May 7 that she's set to drop a new song called "Daisies" next week.
"The music must go on," Katy captioned a photo of herself on Instagram.
Fans think this is all hardly a coincidence — and they may be right. As some Swifties have pointed out, this week marks the two-year anniversary of the women setting their differences aside and reconciling.
"Taylor just happens to post a pic of herself in a DAISY sweater the same day Katy announces her new single called DAISIES?!" one fan tweeted.
Need more proof? The "American Idol" Twitter account retweeted Katy's announcement (after all, she is a judge on the show) and captioned it, "We can't wait to play this like 1,989 times in a row."
Taylor's fifth album is titled "1989."
Neither woman has commented on the speculation.
Taylor has a long history of subtly dropped clues — known as "Easter eggs" — about music, tours or appearances in her social media messages. Likewise, her fan base is remarkably skilled at figuring out the cryptic messages. In late April, they were convinced that she was set to make a major announcement on May 8 because of a selfie she posted to Instagram. The photo was posted at exactly 5:08 p.m. The number, Swifties claimed, translated to May 8. Perhaps not coincidentally, the cryptic message is also eight words long. Well, on May 8, Taylor announced that a brand-new concert special titled "Taylor Swift City of Lover" will air on ABC on May 17.
