Secret agent woman! Taylor Swift reveals she pulled out all the stops in keeping her "All Too Well: The Short Film" project under wraps.
Last year, the singer wrote, directed and filmed the short movie, featuring actors Dylan O'Brien and Sadie Sink, in New York City. It was released last November, and little-to-no information was ever leaked prior to the airing.
"I'm really secret agent-y about people not finding out about what we're making while we're making it," Tayor told fans during the Tribeca Film Festival screening of "All Too Well: The Short Film."
She continued, "So everything was codewords, and writing things in codes that only certain people knew … I'm so weird with stuff like that."
Although the song was reportedly written about ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor has never publicly confirmed it. She also didn't take the bait while speaking about the video with filmmaker Mike Mills, choosing to focus on the plot of the short film.
"I wanted it to feel like them falling together was inevitable and them falling apart was just as inevitable," she said. "I wanted it to feel like there were forces at play and they couldn't stop from colliding or being dismantled."
Fans couldn't help but notice the age gap between Dylan, 30, and Sadie, 20. Taylor and Jake have a nine-year age difference, which was apparently an issue in their three-month romance in 2010.
Over the weekend, Dylan spoke to Taylor about making the secretive video, too.
"I'll never forget. You said, 'We need this guy to be likable even though he's going to execute some really unlikable things,'" he told the Grammy winner. "It's such a nuanced perspective Taylor has. It's not black and white. He's not a monster. He's just a narcissistic, egomaniacal child."
