James Bond has a license to fill.
Last year, Daniel Craig famously said he's rather "slit my wrists" than play the legendary secret agent again. It seems like he's serious (at least about not wanting to play Bond again.) The franchise, of course, is going nowhere, as Bond films have been made fairly consistently since the first movie came out in 1961.
Taking on the role of Bond can transform a career for an actor, as many of Hollywood's biggest stars have played the Brit, including Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and, of course, Daniel.
Here are five guys we would love to see as the next 007.
The British star is possibly the odds-on favorite to take on the role. In fact, a British bookmaker had to suspend gambling on the star becoming Bond after someone put down a large sum of money on it (yes, you can bet on these kind of things across the pond.) Local reports said Tom was spotted meeting with Bond director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli last week, too. Tom would be great as Bond. He's British, dapper, good looking and adaptable. He's played everything from a comic book character to country artist Hank Williams.
From Superman to the man. Henry Cavill may not have the elegance of some of the others, but he's got the build. Henry is a physical specimen who the ladies seem to love (remind you of anyone… cough, cough, Bond, cough.) He's already said he'd be thrilled to take on the iconic role. In March, Graham Norton asked him if it would be "greedy" to have a vice grip on both Superman and Bond, two legendary roles, he replied, "greedy or awesome?"
Idris is thought of as one of the hardest working actors in the business. And really, does anyone work harder than James Bond? Idris can withstand the physical requirements of playing the secret agent, as he's played many physically and mentally demanding roles during his career. Over the years, some have criticized the franchise for nothing being inclusive of men of color. Idris would certainly change all that. He's one of the best actors in Hollywood.
He would be one of the more rugged Bond's of all time, but we'd love to see that. In February, coming on the heels of the monster success of "Mad Max: Fury Road," Tom was thought as one of the favorites to take on 007. Tom is really good in every role that he plays, and there's no doubt that he would introduce a younger generation to Bond. Plus, he really knows how to rock a suit.
Last year, the "Homeland" star has been given the "unofficial nod" to becoming Bond. It would be dream role for Damian, who grew up watching the secret agent. Like Bond, Damian knows what it's like to play with firearms on screen, as he did so on "Homeland." Is the world ready for a red-headed Bond though?
