It might be no coincidence that Amber Heard, 30, filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, 52, just three days after his mother died.

Though the timing sure seems callous given how close Johnny was to his mom, multiple sources tell TMZ the history of tension between the actress and Betty Sue Palmer dates back to before she moved into Johnny and Amber's Los Angeles home earlier this year.

Betty Sue, whose name appears inside a heart tattoo on her son's arm and who accompanied him to a handful of red carpet events through the years, reportedly believed Amber "was using Johnny" for his wealth and to get a step up in her own acting career -- a belief she shared with friends regularly, the gossip site reports.

Sources also say Johnny and Betty were suspicious of the fact that Betty Sue only saw her son once between the time he and Amber said "I do" in February 2015 and her move to their home a year later.

Though the matriarch reportedly sat down twice for "closed door" meetings with Amber, TMZ alleges Betty Sue used the time to call Amber a "terrible person" and that things got worse between them once they shared a living space.

Other members of Johnny's family are said to have had problems with Amber, too. Both his sisters and his children reportedly "hated" her and complained that she "railed on" him and "treated him like crap," according to the website.

Meanwhile, it seems Amber may have been struggling with her own concerns about the marriage from the beginning. People reports the actress was freaked out about how much her world changed once her "Rum Diaries" co-star became part of it.

"Before Amber met Johnny she was just a regular super cool hipster chick living with roommates who dated girls," an insider told the magazine. "At their engagement party she kind of got cold feet... she was just like what is this scene and what am I doing here? She kind of couldn't believe it was her life now."

Despite having displayed plenty of red carpet PDA over the course of their relationship, People reports Johnny was nowhere in sight at the Parker Hotel in Palm Springs, California, where Amber spent her 30th birthday with friends in April.

When she filed for divorce on May 23, she cited irreconcilable differences and requested spousal support from Johnny, whose estimated net worth is about $400 million, according to the Daily Mail.

In his filing, Johnny reportedly asked the judge to toss Amber's request for support. The estranged couple did not have a prenup.
