Former "Beverly Hills, 90210" star Shannen Doherty has put on a brave face as she battles her way through cancer. The TV star just posted a new photo of herself with the hashtag #cancersucks, days after revealing that the disease has spread and she needs further treatment.
On Saturday, Aug. 6, Shannen shared a snap of herself, showing off her shaved head and sitting on her bed, wearing a t-shirt and sweats.
Along with the powerful photo, the 45-year-old, who has been battling cancer since 2015, posted a quote from the poet R.M. Drake (a fave with the Kardashian clan), "She was fierce, she was strong, she wasn't simple. She was crazy and sometimes she barely slept. She always had something to say. She had flaws and that was ok." The telling poem went on, "And when she was down, she got right back up. She was a beast in her own way, but one idea described her best. She was unstoppable and she took anything she wanted with a smile."
The former "Charmed" star ended the post with the hashtags, #cancersucks #warrior and #fightlikeagirl.
It's been an emotional week for the television star. Earlier this week, Shannen did an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" in which she revealed that her breast cancer had spread.
The actress, who went through a single mastectomy back in May, said, "I had breast cancer that spread to the lymph nodes, and from one of my surgeries we discovered that some of the cancer cells might have actually gone out of the lymph nodes. So for that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I'll do radiation."
In the interview, Shannen went on to talk about her fears, saying, "The unknown is always the scariest part. Is the chemo going to work? Is the radiation going to work? You know, am I going to have to go through this again, or am I going to get secondary cancer? Everything else is manageable. Pain is manageable, you know living without a breast is manageable, it's the worry of your future and how your future is going to affect the people that you love."
The actress also said that her husband of five years, Kurt Iswarienko, has kept her sane and steady during this trying ordeal. The "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" actress also told "E.T." that her husband was in full support of her decision to shave her head, "He was in Mexico working and he was texting nonstop in the middle of his photoshoot like, 'Give me pictures, and are you OK? I wish I could be there.' He was so stricken that he wasn't there with me but I sent him pictures and videos and he was like, 'Oh my God. You're hot with no hair.' So you know, everybody kind of made me feel better about it."
On August 5, Shannen posted a sweet snap of the two of them together with the caption, "He loves me with pink hair or no hair. I'm blessed to have such a strong support team starting with@kurtiswarienko who loves me more every second. Can't imagine my life without him. Cancer is not pleasant but it can bring out the best in relationships or the worse. Thankfully, it has made our marriage stronger. #f🎀cancer."
While Shannen and her body may be going through hell, it seems as though she's got a solid support system to help her through those dark days.
We're rooting for ya, Brenda Walsh!
