Prince Harry responded to
Donald Trump harming a cause he cares about, though he later insisted his comments weren't aimed at the former reality star. After the president spent time with the royal family during his second state visit to England, the Duke of Sussex spoke out against Trump's slashing of funding from HIV/AIDS prevention programs.

In
a video alongside
Charlize Theron and
Magic Johnson,
Prince Harry pleaded with governments across the world to restore funding to HIV/AIDS research programs. "Without urgent action to reverse these crippling funding cuts, 6 million more people will become infected with HIV, while 4 million will die from AIDS-related causes within the next four years," he said. The 41-year-old did not specifically mention Donald Trump or the United States, but
the research he cited appeared to reference the cuts to an American program called PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, that former President
George W. Bush initiated in 2003.

After many viewers speculated that the message was aimed at Donald Trump,
Prince Harry set the record straight. "The film was not explicitly aimed at any one individual, it was more generally about reminding all leaders and those with influence that there is still work to do in the fight against HIV/AIDS," his representative said in
a statement.

Shortly after returning to the White House, Donald Trump passed an executive order that drastically cut money going toward HIV/AIDS research. "The United States foreign aid industry and bureaucracy are not aligned with American interests and, in many cases, are antithetical to American values. They serve to destabilize world peace by promoting ideas in foreign countries that are directly inverse to harmonious and stable relations internal to and among countries," the directive
read. "It is the policy of the United States that no further United States foreign assistance shall be disbursed in a manner that is not fully aligned with the foreign policy of the president of the United States."

Prince Harry's purported disdain for Donald Trump's budget cuts comes after the right-winger appeared to make
a subtle dig at the
Spare author in front of
King Charles III,
Prince William and the rest of the royal family. "His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. Really amazing. We've gotten to know you and I think you're going to have an unbelievable success in future," Trump gushed of William while suspiciously failing to mention Harry.

According to
journalist Rob Shuter,
Prince Harry and
Meghan Markle were
insulted by the slight from Donald Trump and how the royal family welcomed him with open arms. "Harry and Meghan can't believe what they're seeing," he claimed. "The pomp, the handshakes, the compliments — to them, it looks like bowing down to a man who has openly insulted them for years. It was a dig, no question. Watching the family laugh along felt like betrayal. Harry and Meghan won't forget this night — or the message it sent."
