AJ McLean said he was heartbroken after his most recent interaction with Britney Spears at a Los Angeles bakery.
While on SiriusXM's "Andy Cohen Live," the Backstreet Boy noted that he and the pop star live in the same area and run into each other from time to time. Most recently, AJ said he bumped into Brit at a cupcake store.
"The last time I saw her, it broke my heart," he said. "Went in, she was there, she looked right at me and I was like, 'Hey, it's AJ.' And she just kind of had this glass face. Like, she just didn't know who was there."
Britney and AJ, of course, have known each other for decades as they found stardom around the same time.
After a moment of pleasantries, "she realized it was me," AJ said.
"We hugged and we talked for a brief moment," he said. "I could just see that this wasn't her. Like, I'm not looking at the person I knew from years and years ago."
In the chat, AJ made it clear that he stands with Britney and believes the conservatorship that's guided her life is "insane."
"I am 100 percent team Britney," he said. "Back in the beginning of this conservatorship, when everything happened about 13 years ago, I could kind of empathize in that moment maybe with her family, with how things transpired, but for it to go on this long is absolutely asinine. I think it's insane. It is completely brutal… It's grotesque."
