Amanda Peet plays real-life double murderer Betty Broderick on the new season of the USA Network series "Dirty John." While the actress certainly doesn't harbor Betty's rage, she actually sees one similarity between herself and the woman she portrays.

"I'm a very jealous person too and she was really unfairly treated during the court proceedings and I can understand," Amanda told Page Six. "I mean, I haven't snapped myself but I'm very fascinated by what makes someone snap."
Betty's case made national headlines in 1989 after she gunned down her ex-husband, Daniel Broderick III, and his second wife, Linda Kolkena — something she never denied doing. Betty had supported Daniel though both medical and law school, and he eventually got his dream job. Daniel went on to hire Linda and filed for divorce from Betty after 17 years of marriage. He then married Linda, angering Betty.

Amanda found it intriguing to play Betty, especially considering their differing backgrounds.
"My mom was a shrink and I grew up in a fairly open household. I didn't grow up in the social mores of the 50s. My dad told me when I was 8 years old, never rely on any man for your income. I didn't even know what the word income meant," she said. "He just kept saying to me and my sister never rely on a man for your income and I said, 'Well, can I rely on your income right now?'"
Betty was convicted of double murder in 1989 and is currently in prison.
