Donald Trump's mental fitness, stating that he should undergo the same level of scrutiny that was applied to former President
Joe Biden ahead of the 2024 election.
Jeffries pointed out the scrutiny Biden faced, especially regarding his age — he would be 82 by the time his next term would begin — and his fitness for office. This concern grew after Biden's poor debate performance against Trump last June, which eventually led to Biden withdrawing from the race, allowing Vice President
Kamala Harris to take his place.

Jeffries Responds to Trump's Criticism of Biden
During a conversation on the Tuesday, April 29, episode of "The MeidasTouch Podcast," host
Ben Meiselas cited several instances that raised questions about Donald Trump's own mental fitness.
Meiselas pointed to Trump's repeated claims about negotiating a trade deal with China — claims that China denies — and his apparent nodding off during
Pope Francis's funeral on Saturday, April 26.
Jeffries responded to these concerns, saying, "Trump spent the last year and a half questioning the cognitive ability of President Joe Biden, notwithstanding many of the legislative accomplishments that Donald Trump could only wish he got over the finish line."
The Media's Focus on Biden's Fitness
In the months leading up to the 2024 election, many in the media, as well as members of the Republican Party, expressed doubts about Joe Biden's mental and physical abilities to continue serving as president.
His age was a significant factor, as critics questioned if he was fit for another term. Biden's debate performance against Trump, which many considered disastrous, fueled these concerns even further.
His eventual withdrawal from the race, paving the way for Kamala Harris, reflected the increasing anxiety over his ability to carry out the duties of the presidency, even though many later questioned whether Democratic stars like

Public Concern About Trump's Fitness
Hakeem Jeffries noted that, based on his interactions with Americans across the country, many are questioning whether Donald Trump is truly fit to serve as president.
"I think it's fair that a lot of Americans across the country that I run into are questioning whether Donald Trump is actually fit, at this point, to be able to carry out the duties of the United States of America, in terms of being the president and the Commander-in-Chief," he said.
