In
a statement released on
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Archewell's website, the couple emphasized how children who have been critically injured in the attacks on Gaza are in desperate need of help. "No single organization can solve this alone," they said. "Gaza now has the highest density of child amputees in the world and in history. "It takes partnerships across government, science, medicine, humanitarian response and advocacy to ensure children survive and can recover after blast injuries." The pair put forward $500,000 toward the cause in the form of three grants from their foundation that will help the World Health Organization with medical evacuations and fund the making of prosthetics.

Helping people who have been severely injured is a cause close to
Prince Harry's heart. During the
Spare author's recent trip to the U.K., he visited the Centre for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College London, where he witnessed the progress of kits that can make low-cost external fixators to treat bones that have been crushed by explosions or in natural disasters. "We very much consider you part of our story," pediatric blast injury lead at Imperial College London
Emily Mayhew told the father of two of his work with the research center.

During another of
Prince Harry's engagements on his U.K. trip, he personally pledged 1.1 million pounds (nearly $1.5M) to BBC Children in Need. "The challenges remain serious and sadly aren't getting any easier," the 40-year-old
said of why he was making the donation. "Violence impacting young people, particularly knife crime, continues to devastate lives, cut futures short and leave families in grief."
