Emily Chang asked Meghan Markle — who called Donald Trump "divisive and misogynistic" in 2016 — if there were "things you're dying to say or do right now, but you feel like you can't" in regards to American politics. "No, I just make a choice of what matters to me and what's important to me. And that was a different time in 2016 certainly," Meghan replied. "I think if there's anything I wanted to say or that felt necessary to say, then I would say it, but that's not where I'm at right now. I haven't said anything [political] since 2016, which was well before I met my husband [
Prince Harry]." The host replied, "We are living in such a charged time and it seems like no one is speaking up, because it's scary to speak up. What do you think of the direction our country is going in?" Responded Meghan, "I think right now it's a really interesting time for the entire world. I just hope people are able to maintain the values that they feel are important to them and to feel safe and to remember our humanity with each other through all of it. However polarized the world can feel, you just go back to the fact that we are all human beings and try to find a way to connect rather than divide."

People online were stunned by Meghan Markle's silence on Donald Trump. "Whoo! She actually chickened out. Shall we call her MACO now?" one person wrote, referencing Trump's TACO nickname — an acronym for "Trump Always Chickens Out" on the implementation of his controversial tariffs. "She has a selective memory. She said plenty in the 2020 election," another person chimed in. "Nice that they live where they can be so nonchalant about what's happening here. What happened to that 'caring' nature of hers? Oh yeah, she never had one for others," a third critic wrote.

Donald Trump has been extremely candid about his dislike for Meghan Markle. When asked if he would try to deport
Prince Harry back to England, he responded by taking a shot at his spouse. "I don't want to do that. I'll leave him alone. He's got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible," the right-winger
said of the former
Suits star.
