A Dave Chappelle fan has accused Donnell Rawlings of punching him in the face, and now the comedian is wanted by police for questioning.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that a 20-year-old man named Thurston Greer alleges Rawlings punched him in the head with a closed fist outside a New York City hotel in the wee hours of Aug. 5. He also claims that he's experiencing pain and swelling as a result and that there are scratches on his arms.
According to TMZ, the dustup went down after Greer crossed paths with Dave Chappelle outside a hotel bathroom on Friday night and asked for a photo — which the "Chappelle's Show" star declined.
Greer claims he went outside the hotel and started shooting a Facebook Live video detailing his encounter with the legendary comedian. Chappelle then exited the hotel with Rawlings and a security guard.
The trio were allegedly angered by Greer's continued presence, which they purportedly perceived as an ongoing effort to get a photo with Chappelle, and tried to take Greer's phone.
The fan says he was punched during the resulting scuffle.
While Chappelle is not listed in the police report, cops reportedly want to speak with Rawlings.
Greer tells TMZ he's "already met with an attorney and is considering legal options."
But a source close to the comedians maintains to the outlet that the fan was "extremely intrusive," "aggressive" and "determined" — and even tried to take photos of Chappelle and Rawlings while they were in the bathroom.
The source adds that Rawling never actually landed a punch: He reportedly took a swing at Greer, missed and fell to the ground.
Before the drama went down, Rawlings was on hand as Chappelle performed at Radio City Music Hall on Aug. 4.
He took to Instagram earlier on Friday night to post a photo from the event, which he captioned, "#familyfirst @radiocitymusichall"
