Paramount agreed to a $16 million settlement with Donald Trump. The sum includes plaintiffs' fees and costs. However, the cash won't be given directly to the Republican leader. Instead, it will go toward Trump's future presidential library. "The settlement does not include a statement of apology or regret," the company made clear.

While Donald Trump claimed the suit was potentially worth billions in damages, the commander-in-chief feels confident about the legal victory. "With this record settlement, President Donald J. Trump delivers another win for the American people as he, once again, holds the Fake News media accountable for their wrongdoing and deceit," a spokesman for Trump explained in a statement. "CBS and Paramount Global realized the strength of this historic case and had no choice but to settle."

CBS and Paramount received criticism for caving to Donald Trump, a move that's been perceived as setting a dangerous precedent for free speech in the United States. "This is a very sad moment for
60 Minutes, CBS News and journalism," an anonymous staff member told
CNN. Said the Freedom of the Press Foundation in a statement, "Paramount's spineless decision to settle Trump's patently unconstitutional lawsuit is an insult to the First Amendment and to the journalists and viewers of
60 Minutes."

Donald Trump sued CBS for $10 billion (and then $20 billion), citing "election interference." He claimed they manipulated a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris to "tip the scales" in the 2024 presidential race. "They cheated and defrauded the American people at levels never seen before in the political arena. Kamala Harris, during early voting and, immediately before Election Day, was asked a question and gave an answer, that was so bad and incompetent that it would have cost her many of the votes that she ended up getting," Trump claimed on Truth Social.
